Sorry, I meant to say that Steven Walton won't owe any money when he picks up the CD because I've billed it to his department fund number. Thanks, Lee G.
I have two items to call to your attention. First Prof. James West will be coming in on Wednesday to look at the Richard Wright books that are all in a white Hollinger box in the Hold Room for him. Second I have put a CD in the Rare Books blue "copies ready" box behind the Reference Desk for Steven Walton. It will be in a small office envelope with the bill paperclipped to it. I've emailed him so he'll know the cost to him is $8.00. Lee G.
The Theta Chi archives --a scrapbook box

a cart.
They are on hold for Avi Sadiky who
plans to return this week to look at them.
Thank you.

The Spring Creek Church information for David Meyer is now in the Holds Room--Friday, 2/24/06
Meredith
The Spring Creek Presbyterian Church records are not on microfilm, but instead are reverse copies from microfilm. They are sitting on the long table in the Ref. Reading Room and are not in the Hold Room since they are oversized. Lee G.
David Meyer pastor of the Spring Creek Presbyterian Church will coming in around 1PM today (Friday) to look at three rolls of microfilm containing records of the church. The microfilm will be in the On-Hold Room under his name. I have also printed out a page with a book that is in the stacks that he wants to look at. The microfilm reader is in the Audio-Visual Room and someone will need to show him how to use it. Lee G.
There is a white Hollinger box with seven books by Richard Wright in the Hold Room for Professor Jim West to look at. I've put them all in one box so it will be easier and safer to carry them out to him. There are two titles, Black Boy and American Hunger. Let me know if there are any problems. Thanks, Lee G.
Introduction to Basic Legal Principles (KF889.3.H46 1991) is on hold under the name David Corneal. His student Douglas Sutter put it on hold and other members of Corneal’s class may be in to use it.

Professor Linda Selzer is teaching an American Studies seminar this semester and has asked to make assignments out of Special Collections
Shirley Marchalonis is processing a collection that has a mountain of newspaper clippings that have to be photocopied. I'm going to make an exception to our rule for volunteers (that volunteers should do their work only in our public areas) by letting Shirley make photocopies of these clippings herself. Lee Gruver has given her instructions for operating the Rare Books photocopier. There are far too many to do at one time, so for her next few processing, Shirley will be asking to use the photocopier. I think that she will be able to do most of the copies without our help. Thanks.
Sandy
Dear All,
Alston was able to locate a requested book--John McWilliams, THE PROTECTORS--that was reported missing several days ago. The books covers the life and career of Harry J. Anslinger, director of the U.S. Bureau of Narcotics from the early 1930s to 1960. The book, contrary to popular belief, is part of the PSU Book Collection and not an HCLA reference book as is generally assumed. HCLA does have an Anslinger book in its REF collection, THE MURDERERS, and a Spanish edition of the same, LOS ASESINOS, Call# HV5825 A.73 1962 on the HCLA Reference Book Shelves located across from the reference desk.
An English 15 Rhetoric class taught by Stephanie Pyle will be using the Anslinger collection for a class assignment (Box 7, Anslinger Collection) which is in the Hold Room under Ms. Pyle's name. I will be holding an instructional session in the Mann Room on March 1st. After this session, the class (18-20 students) will be arranged in six small groups (3 students per group) to work on their respective projects with a deadline around March 20th. The assignment involves each group working with one or two files from Box7 and analyzing the literature, text, and rhetoric of the war on drugs. As the class needs to work in groups I will try to arrange to have the Eighth Air Force Room available as much as possible for small group meetings. Each group will be meeting on its own time within Special Collections. As much as possible, the groups should be directed to the Eighth Air Force Room or Steelworkers Room if scheduling permits. No more than one group (three students) should be allowed in the Reading Room at any time to work on the group assignment.
Thanks,
Jim Quigel
There are photocopies waiting for James Lewis to pickup in the Rare Books blue "photocopies ready" box on the shelves behind the Reference Desk. He should be in soon to pick them up.
Also I have a request. When you send a message to the blog could you put your name after your message in case one of us needs to get back to you. There have been some messages without names lately and we don't who to contact if we should need to. Thanks
Just a test - showing Meredith.
Dear All,
On Friday morning a patron, Tony Rametta, will be visiting Special Collections with his sons to use one box of photographic images from the Meyer Bernstein Collection relating to Little Steel Strike of 1937. The images are currently in the hold room with an orange/amber slip under the name Rametta. They are researching for images and possibly some printed/graphic materials from SWOC-related collections to reproduce and display as part of the student's National History Day Project. I have also pulled for them the SWOC Reference Guide and they may request materials from any number of personal paper collections documenting the effort to organize the steel industry during the 1930s. SWOC stands for Steelworkers Organizing Committee and was the pre-cursor to the United Steelworkers of America. The patrons are free to photocopy images and materials from the collection but no materials are to be scanned unless cleared by me. Just refer the patrons to me if they request to scan images.
Thanks,
Jim Qugel
Linear Programming by James P. Ignizio and Tom M. Cavalier is on hold in the hold room under the name Kyle Patterson.
