Professor Maria Truglio who teaches Italian has requested that Rare Books put a copy of Paulo Ucello in the Hold Room for her 15 students. I have made a photocopy and placed it in a manilla folder. It is in the Hold Room under her last name Truglio, Maria. The students may make photocopies of the pages in our copy room, but be sure to tell them not to mix the pages up. And, of course, they can't take the copy of the book out of the room. Thanks, Lee--
HST/LST490 students have a small (1-2 box) archival description project assignment.
The boxes for the students will be stored in the hallway (beginning Thursday, Sept. 25) and the students wiill request collections by their name.
A list of class assignments is under the plastic sheet at the reference desk. You will note they are broken into two groups. Group A's assignment is due Oct. 20. Group B's assignment is due Nov. 20.
The purpose of this split is to minimize the number of students using the reading room for any 3-4 week period (max # 8).
Both Doris M. and I can assist the students if questions arise. FYI, the students are basically writing core records.

Dear All,
Mr. David Struthers will be visiting Special Collections during the week of September 22nd to conduct research in the United Steelworkers of America Archives / District 38 records (Los Angeles CA) . I have pulled all nine boxes to the collection and have them staged on a cart in the holding pen in the hall way. The collection is open (no restrictions) and he is free to photocopy for his research. Mr. Struthers has a copy of the inventory to the District 38 records that I provided him. Should he want to also access labor oral history transcripts they are also open. These are located in the processing room, arranged by alphabetical order. If you have any problems locating materials please call me and I'll locate them for the patron.
Thanks,
Jim Quigel, HCLA
I am putting copies for Bonnie Frederick who works in Old Main into the blue Rare Books copy box that is behind the Reference Desk. I'm assuming she'll be in sometime today to pick them up. The bill for $2.50 is with the copies. Thanks, Lee--
I have updated the public scanner instructions and placed them in the binder beside the computer. There are step by step instructions on how to scan images on the first page, and two pages with instructions on how to save images. If you have any questions or instructions are not clear enough, please let me know.
Thanks, Paul D.
A patron requested a Manual for Dairy Manufacturing: short courses that is cataloged. It was not on the PSU shelf list or shelf. The patron registration form has a print out from the catalog. If we can find this item, please email the patron to let him know how or when it will be available. If the short courses are shelved separately, please send a reminder of that location to everyone.--Doris
HPN Reporter will be coming to review Betsy Aardsma materials on Wednesday, 9/17/2008 ca. 9:00 a.m. I will have a cart waiting for him in the hall and I will speak with him when I am not involved in Open House.
Please feel free to gather me up to deal with him as the "official" Library spokesperson.

Bonnie Frederick from DLT will be here Friday during her lunch break to look at 2 Rare Books. I'll pull them tomorrow morning and put them in the Hold Room. Thanks! Jeanette
Hi, all. As you know, I received the grant for the SAA workshops for Spring 2009 but at reduced funding (I asked for $15,000 and received $12,500). I discussed some strategies with SAA education director Solveig De Sutter at the conference and we decided to advertise three of the four workshops first to ensure we could get enough attendees to meet the minimum fifteen registrants per workshop. We'll add the fourth if there's still interest and money. I told Solveig that I would poll the folks in Special Collections to see which three of the four workshops attracts the most interest.
Please rank the workshops from 1 through 4 in order of your preference (1 being the highest priority) and send your reply to me in an email by Sept. 15 so I can report back to Solveig to start negotiating with instructors.
The workshops are:
An Introduction to Archival Exhibitions
Becoming a Film-Friendly Archivist
Legal Aspects of Photography Rights, Archive Management, and Permission
Using Oral Histories: Publications, Exhibits, Internet
For descriptions of these workshops, go to the SAA website at http://www.archivists.org/prof-education/course_catalog.asp
Thanks.
Sue

Just a reminder that the entire Lowenfeld collection is no longer in the GST. It is temporarily upstairs in Waring while I work on it. Ann
